AME ZION CHURCH

Mount Vernon, NY / 2008 - Reverend W. Darin Moore, center, participates in a pastoral anniversary revival with his congregation at the Greater Centennial AME Zion Church in Mount Vernon June 11, 2008. Moore grew up attending the AMZ Zion Church and now he’s celebrating his 15th year as pastor. He has helped to grow the church from 800 members to 5,000, making it one of the largest churches in the national denomination. This is particularly unusual because in the AME Zion denomination, which is historically Methodist, pastors are generally transferred every few years by the bishop who oversees each jurisdiction.
